Maltepe University is a foundation university established in Maltepe, Istanbul in 1997 by the Istanbul Marmara Education Foundation. Having welcomed its first students in the 1997–1998 academic year, Maltepe University was founded on a sprawling open area of 1,000 decares and 300 decares of enclosed space among pine forests, with the aim of bringing together the educational institutions of the Istanbul Marmara Education Foundation. Today, the university provides higher education opportunities to more than 10,000 students through 9 faculties — including the Faculty of Education, Faculty of Fine Arts, Faculty of Law, Faculty of Communication, Faculty of Human and Social Sciences, Faculty of Business and Management Sciences, Faculty of Architecture and Design, Faculty of Engineering and Natural Sciences, and Faculty of Medicine — along with 1 conservatory, 3 schools, 1 vocational school, and 1 graduate education institute.
