Although it officially received university status in 1944, Istanbul Technical University was founded in 1773 under the name Muhendishane-i Bahri-i Humayun during the reign of Mahmud III to provide engineering education. Having served the modernization and development of the country throughout both the Ottoman and Republican eras, Istanbul Technical University has 5 campuses in Istanbul. Across 14 faculties with 104 undergraduate and 191 graduate programs, ITU provides educational opportunities to 37,235 students with a faculty of 2,242 academic staff. Istanbul Technical University offers 16 International Joint Undergraduate Programs and also provides exchange programs such as Erasmus. In 2021, ITU carried out a total of 1,189 scientific research projects, primarily through TUBITAK and EU-funded projects.

How to get into
Istanbul Technical University requires prospective students enrolled in English-medium departments to complete an English Preparatory Program.
Additionally, prospective students who wish to apply to undergraduate programs offered by Istanbul Technical University must meet the following requirements.
For Turkish Students;
● High School Diploma
● Minimum YKS Base Score: 243.33733 / Maximum YKS Base Score: 495.19952
● For Preparatory Program Exemption: A minimum score of 72 on TOEFL
For International Students;
● Score from exams such as SAT, GCE, AP, ABITUR, or MATURA (requirements vary by country)
or
International Baccalaureate Diploma or A-Level Diploma
