Although Galatasaray University officially gained university status in 1992, its roots trace back to the Galata Sarayı Enderun Mektebi from the Ottoman era. Having provided education in the same building since the Ottoman period with the goal of cultivating distinguished scholars for the state, Galatasaray University is the only public university in Turkey where the language of instruction is French.
Today, the university offers education to 3,300 students through 5 faculties and 2 institutes, with its campus situated in the Ortaköy neighborhood of Istanbul, around the historic İbrahim Tevfik Efendi waterside palace on the Bosphorus. Galatasaray University offers Erasmus and Socrates exchange programs as well as a dual degree program with Sorbonne University. Preserving its vision and mission from the Ottoman era to the present day, Galatasaray University has become one of our country's most important educational institutions.
