The University of Malta (UM) is an institution of higher education located in Malta. The university offers students programs across numerous departments at the undergraduate, postgraduate, and doctoral levels. The roots of the University of Malta date back to the founding of the Collegium Melitense on November 12, 1592. With a rich history, the university provides its students with an education suited to the demands of the modern era. The university is home to approximately 11,300 students, including around 1,500 international students from 127 different countries and 600 visiting overseas students. Today the university comprises fourteen faculties, eighteen institutes, thirteen centres, and three schools.
Admission to the university is based on the results of maturity examinations (A levels). Grades are awarded on a seven-point scale: a grade of 1 is awarded for the highest level of achievement, while a grade of 7 indicates the minimum satisfactory performance.

The main campus of the University of Malta is located in Msida. Spanning 250,207 m², the campus houses most of the university's faculties and institutions. The campus design was inspired by American university campuses. Separate buildings and a library have been constructed for each faculty. One of the most notable buildings on the university campus is the Faculty of Architecture building, designed by British architect Peter Richardson.
