University of Bergen

The University of Bergen (UiB) is primarily a city university, and its main campus is integrated into the urban landscape of Bergen, Norway's second-largest city. Unlike more isolated or rural campuses, UiB's facilities are spread throughout the city center, allowing students and faculty to be closely connected to the cultural and social life of Bergen.

The central campus is located in the Nygårdshøyden district, where historic and modern buildings coexist and house faculties such as Humanities, Social Sciences, Law, and Psychology. This area also hosts the university's main administration, the University Library, and various academic support services.

Its location offers easy access to public transportation, cafes, museums, and parks, making it a dynamic and accessible environment for students. In addition to Nygårdshøyden, UiB operates several specialized campuses and facilities.

The Faculty of Medicine and the Faculty of Dentistry are located in the Haukeland University Hospital area, which contains state-of-the-art laboratories, teaching hospitals, and research centers, fostering collaboration between academia and clinical practice.

The Marine Research facilities are located at the Marineholmen campus, part of the Bergen Science City, which is home to important institutes such as the Institute of Marine Research and the Bjerknes Centre for Climate Research.

Student life at the University of Bergen (UiB) is vibrant and culturally rich, offering students a wide range of opportunities to engage in academic, social, and extracurricular activities. The university is home to a large number of student organizations and clubs catering to diverse interests, including academic fields, politics, volunteering, performing arts, and international relations.

The Bergen Student Society (Studentersamfunnet i Bergen) is one of the oldest and most influential student organizations in Norway, hosting debates, concerts, and cultural events open to all students. The Student Parliament (Studentparlamentet) plays a vital role in representing student interests and promoting democratic participation within the university.

UiB also has a strong tradition of student journalism, with publications such as Studvest, a student newspaper covering campus and city life. Sports and student traditions are an important part of the social experience at UiB. While the university does not have its own sports facilities, students can join student-run sports clubs such as BSI (Bergen Studentidrettslag), which offers a wide range of sports including soccer, volleyball, climbing, and martial arts.

UiB is also known for its participation in Bergen's cultural life, and students frequently attend many of the city's festivals, including the Bergen International Festival and the Nattjazz Festival.
