Application Steps
- University AdmissionA Turkish high school diploma (12 years) does not grant direct admission to Swiss universities; most universities require a Turkish high school diploma + 1 year of study at a university in Türkiye, or a Swiss Matur equivalence. An additional entrance exam (Reduzierte Aufnahmeprüfung) is required for ETH Zürich + EPFL.
- Proof of Financial MeansProof of financial means of CHF 21,000-25,000 per year (bank account or scholarship certificate). In some cantons a blocked account (CHF 1,750/month) is mandatory.
- Health InsuranceSwiss statutory health insurance is mandatory; student rate of CHF 100-200 per month (Swisscare, Helsana, Sanitas). Turkish SGK coverage is not valid in Switzerland.
- Visa Application (Type D)Type D national visa through the İstanbul/Ankara Consulate. Fee CHF 88. Documents: admission letter + proof of funds + insurance + language proficiency + motivation letter. Processing time 8-12 weeks.
- Residence Permit (Aufenthaltsbewilligung B)Registration with the cantonal migration office within 14 days of arrival in Switzerland. Residence permit CHF 100-200 per year (varies by canton). Renewed every year; the total cost is around CHF 1,200 for 4 years.
