London School of Economics and Political Science (LSE)
One of the world's leading social science universities, specializing in a wide range of social science disciplines, including economics, politics, political science, sociology, law and anthropology, LSE was founded in 1895 by Fabian Society members Beatrice and Sidney Webb, Graham Wallas and George Bernard Shaw to create an institution dedicated to the betterment of society through the study of the social sciences. In 1900, LSE became part of the University of London, a federal university, and expanded its focus beyond economics and politics to include a wider range of social sciences. Throughout the 20th century, LSE has been influential in British society for its work in social policy, economics and political science, consistently ranking high in world university rankings and is recognized for its leadership, particularly in the social sciences. One of Europe's top educational institutions, LSE's alumni and faculty have been awarded more than 18 Nobel Prizes, particularly in the fields of peace and economics, and its alumni and faculty include influential figures such as economists Friedrich Hayek and Joseph Stiglitz, former British Prime Ministers Clement Attlee and Sir Anthony Eden, and leaders of various countries.
