Universiti Malaya (UM), Malaysia's oldest and most prestigious university, was founded in 1949 following the merger of King Edward VII Medical College, founded in 1905, and Raffles College, founded in 1928. Originally located in Singapore, the university was split into two autonomous divisions in 1959, one in Singapore and the other in Kuala Lumpur. The Malaysian part became known as Universiti Malaya following the passage of the University of Malaya Act in 1962. The Kuala Lumpur campus is now a vibrant and diverse academic community set in 750 acres of lush greenery in the Malaysian capital. Universiti Malaya has achieved many successes throughout its history and has been internationally recognized for its academic excellence and research contributions. The University has produced many influential leaders in various fields, including politics, business and academia. Notable alumni include several Malaysian prime ministers such as Tun Abdul Razak and Tun Dr. Mahathir Mohamad. UM is recognized for its strong research, particularly in medicine, engineering and social sciences, and is ranked among the top universities in Asia and the world.

Undergraduate
- National Higher School Certificate (or an Advanced Level equivalent) with the grade 80% and above
or - A Diploma from recognized Institutions with the least a CGPA of 3.00
- Applicant may be required to undergo an interview session for certain selection programme before being accepted by the respective faculty
- English proficiency certificate for programs where the medium of instruction is English
- English proficiency certificate obtained with the scores of English proficiency exams such as IELTS, TOEFL, PTE Academic

Prospective international students who wish to apply to graduate programs offered by Universiti Malaya must meet the admission requirements set out below.
- Bachelor's Degree Diploma
- High Grade Point Average
- Official transcripts of the courses taken by the applicant during college/university education
- Work experience may be required for certain programs
- Certificate in English Proficiency for programs taught in English
- IELTS Academic, TOEFL iBT, Cambridge English Tests (C1 advanced or C2 proficiency)
- GRE/GMAT exam score may be required in accordance with the specific admission requirements of certain programs.

and - Achieve a minimum Band in the Malaysian University English Test (MUET) according to the requirement of the programme, and
- Have fulfilled all special requirements of the programme as prescribed by the Senate
