Admission Requirements For International Students

Undergraduate

LMU offers a one-year preparatory program to prepare students who wish to apply for undergraduate programs for university study. Programs where the language of instruction is English or English plus German, French and/or Spanish; combined programs and master's programs are some of the options. Students who wish to apply to LMU for undergraduate study must prove their proficiency in German.

• International students must have a secondary school leaving certificate that is equivalent to the German Abitur. This often means completing a recognized university entrance qualification from their home country.
• Depending on the country of origin, students might need to attend a Studienkolleg (preparatory college) and pass the Feststellungsprüfung (university qualification assessment examination) if their qualifications are not equivalent to the German Abitur.
• Proficiency in German is required for most undergraduate programs. Students must provide proof of German language proficiency through recognized tests such as TestDaF (with a minimum of 4x4 points), DSH-2, or the Goethe-Zertifikat C2.
• Some programs might be available in English, for which students need to provide proof of English language proficiency through tests like IELTS (minimum 6.5) or TOEFL (minimum 88).

Graduate

 Prospective international students who wish to apply to graduate programs offered by LMU must meet the admission requirements set out below.

• Bachelor's Degree Diploma
• High Grade Point Average
• Official transcripts of the courses taken by the applicant during college/university education
• Work experience may be required for certain programs
• Certificate in English Proficiency for programs taught in English
  • IELTS Academic, TOEFL iBT, Cambridge English Tests (C1 advanced or C2 proficiency)
• Certificate in German Proficiency for programs taught in German
  • TestDaF, DSH, Goethe-Zertifikat
• GRE/GMAT exam score may be required in accordance with the specific admission requirements of certain programs.

Admission Requirements For Domestic Students

Undergraduate

• Domestic students must possess the Allgemeine Hochschulreife (Abitur) or an equivalent secondary school leaving certificate that qualifies them for university admission in Germany.
• In some cases, students with a Fachgebundene Hochschulreife (subject-specific higher education entrance qualification) may be eligible for admission to specific programs.
• Proficiency in German is a fundamental requirement for most undergraduate programs. The language of instruction for nearly all undergraduate courses is German.
• Proof of language proficiency is generally provided through the Abitur certificate, which includes German language assessment.
• Many programs, especially in popular fields such as medicine, law, and psychology, have a numerus clausus (NC) or a fixed number of places. Admission to these programs is highly competitive and based on the Abitur GPA.
• Students with the highest GPAs are given priority in these competitive programs.

Graduate

• Work experience may be required for certain programs
• GRE/GMAT exam score may be required in accordance with the specific admission requirements of certain programs.
• In addition, LMU may require applicants to sit various exams and obtain a sufficient score in line with the admission requirements specific to the program applicant is applying to.
