Penn has just announced the regular decision results for the Class of 2028, marking the end of yet another remarkable admissions cycle.
Penn has just released the regular decision admission results for the Class of 2028. It's worth noting that they received a record number of applications for the second consecutive year.
Students received the admissions decisions at 7 p.m. This year, Penn received an impressive number of over 65,000 student applications, which is the largest application pool in the university's history. This represents a significant increase of more than 10% compared to last year. The Class of 2027 alone submitted over 59,000 applications, highlighting the strong interest in Penn among prospective students.
According to a press release from Penn Admissions, this year's pool of admitted students is incredibly diverse, with students hailing from 109 countries and all 50 states, including Puerto Rico, the U.S. Virgin Islands, Guam, the Marshall Islands, and the military APO. The Class of 2028 also consists of a significant number of students from Philadelphia.
In the previous year, Penn extended offers of admission to 3,474 students, leading to an overall acceptance rate of 5.8%. The Class of 2027 is comprised of students from 48 states and 97 countries. During a Board of Trustees meeting in June, Dean of Admissions Whitney Soule shared that 19% of the admitted class consists of first-generation college students, while 14% are legacy students.
Furthermore, this marks the initial complete admissions cycle following a significant ruling by the Supreme Court last June, which declared race-conscious admissions to be unconstitutional. In an interview with the Pennsylvania Gazette, Admissions Dean Whitney Soule emphasized the importance of thoroughly evaluating students based on the depth and intricacy of their personal stories, regardless of any external factors.
Penn has chosen to remain test-optional for this admission cycle and has recently confirmed that this policy will be upheld for the Class of 2029. Several other Ivy League schools have recently decided to reinstate their standardized testing requirements.
There have been some modifications to the application this year, where each undergraduate college now has its own unique application question. In addition, they substituted a query regarding academic interest with one regarding community involvement.
Penn has decided to retain the thank-you letter prompt that was introduced last year. The prompt requires the applicant to compose a thank-you letter to an individual who holds significance in their life.
Additionally, Penn is maintaining its ongoing practice of not mandating students submit an enrollment deposit, which was implemented in the previous admissions cycle.
