California Institute of Technology

The California Institute of Technology, commonly referred to as Caltech, is a private research university located in Pasadena, California. Founded in 1891 as Throop University, it was renamed Caltech in 1920. The institution has a strong focus on science and engineering and is internationally renowned for its cutting-edge research and top-tier faculty. Caltech offers undergraduate and graduate programs in various fields, primarily focusing on science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM). Its most notable divisions include Biology and Biological Engineering, Chemistry and Chemical Engineering, Engineering and Applied Science, Geological and Planetary Sciences, Humanities and Social Sciences, and Physics, Mathematics and Astronomy.

Caltech has a relatively small student body, with approximately 1,000 undergraduate students and 1,200 graduate students. Caltech operates under an Honor Code, which allows for a high level of academic freedom and collaboration among students. The Honor Code is based on the principle that students will not take unfair advantage of one another and will act with integrity in their academic and personal lives.     Before applying, make sure your academic interests line up with the courses and research possibilities available by becoming familiar with the programs offered at Caltech.
